This policy describes how BananaSnap for macOS, developed by Howon Kim, handles your information.
Screen Capture and Local Storage
BananaSnap requests Screen Recording permission to capture your screen or selected windows. Captures may contain personal or sensitive information visible on your screen. Images and associated metadata, including capture dates, application names, window titles, tags, recognized text, and generated descriptions, are stored in your local library. App preferences are stored on your Mac.
You can revoke capture permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
iCloud Sync
iCloud sync is enabled by default. When an iCloud account is available and sync is enabled, BananaSnap uploads capture images and associated metadata to your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit. This includes recognized text and descriptions when present. This data is associated with your Apple account, rather than a separate BananaSnap account, and is not published to other users.
Apple processes iCloud data under Apple's Privacy Policy. Sync depends on your iCloud account, available storage, and network connection.
Text Recognition and Automatic Descriptions
Text recognition runs on your device using Apple frameworks. On supported Macs, automatic descriptions use Apple's on-device Foundation Models when available. BananaSnap does not send captures to an external AI provider for these features. Their results can be stored with the capture and included in iCloud sync.
Sharing and Clipboard
Copying an image or recognized text places it on the system clipboard. Using the share menu sends the content you choose to the destination you select. That destination's privacy practices apply.
Retention and Deletion
You can delete captures from the library and choose a retention period in Settings. Unpinned captures are removed after the configured period; pinned captures are retained. When sync is enabled, deleting a capture also requests removal of its iCloud record. Cloud deletion may be delayed by connection or account issues. Copies you exported or shared must be managed separately.
Analytics, Advertising, and Support
BananaSnap does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. If you email support, we receive the contact details and information you send and use them to respond. Avoid sending sensitive screenshots unless needed for your support request.
